20+ Unique at-home date night ideas
I can’t believe I am writing this post. As we head into over a month and a half into Quarantine in Spain (and with no prediction towards when it will end), I decided to write a post about fun ways to still ”go out” even if you stay home. Some of these ideas are fairly easy, other require a bit of imagination. If you’re in search for ways to keep your relationship striving through this pandemic, then I hope you enjoy this post.
# 1 HAVE A THEME NIGHT
Have you ever tried having a theme night? A theme makes everything more fun, don’t you agree?
When it comes to picking a theme, the sky is the limit:
- You can have a French night and serve French wine and baguettes while watching a French movie.
- Or Rainbow night, with colorful candy, outfits and crafts
- Or movie night, where you pick your favorite movie duo to dress up (now I have to convince my boyfriend to dress up like Danny Zuko from Grease)
I believe installing a theme is a great way to have fun and that is why it my first suggestions for a quarantine date night idea at home.
# 2 HAVE A PICNIC IN YOUR LIVING ROOM

It doesn’t matter if it’s February and snowy outside. You can still enjoy a romantic picnic with your boyfriend/husband. You just have to have it indoors
The great thing about picnics is the convenience of having the option of enjoying a romantic date anywhere, even in your own living room. The great benefit of having a picnic indoors in your own house is that you can store cold items in your fridge (and yes, and no pestering ants).
TIP
Add a bit of romance and ‘’gaze at the night stars’’ by installing your Christmas lights up high, or even these cute star-shaped string lights.
PICNIC PROPS IDEAS
Use this comfy pic nic blanket and this basket (that can of course be used once the quarantine is over for proper picnics outside).
# 3 HAVE A KARAOKE NIGHT

Karaoke is one of the most fun date night ideas at home to try, seriously! It is also a great opportunity to release your inner Beyoncé if you have stage fright and do not feel comfortable with Karaoke crowds.
Sing your hearts out together to all your favorite songs. You can go all in and invest in a karaoke player, or you can just look up YouTube videos of your favorite songs + lyrics and just sing your hearts out with these wireless mics to use. This stay at home date idea is a great endorphin booster too which is always great for your relationship!
TIP
Sing duets for extra bonding time. Find below the best Karaoke duet songs for couples:
- Don’t Go Breaking My Heart
- Summer Loving
- A Whole New World
- You’re the One That I Want
- Shallow
- Under Pressure
- I Got You Babe
# 4 PUT TOGETHER A WINE TASTING

They say that best way to learn about wine is by enjoying it with great company. You don’t need to be the next Sommelier of the family to enjoy a wine tasting. Just try to follow your heart to the scents that you smell.
A Tip for Wine Tasting Rookies
Start off by selecting wine with the same grape from different areas, such as Chardonnay from different regions. Smell them, observe their color, pair it with food, take notes.
In my hospitality university, Oenology was one of our favorite classes. When we were starting, our teacher would instruct us to take a deep inhale and say what is the first scent that came to our mind. And that’s how you start your wine tasting journey.
Take your wine tasting date to the next level with these items.
Here are some helpful wine tasting items:
The best-selling Wine Bible available on Amazon, or this dynamic, essential wine guide made by world-class Sommelier Aldo Sohm.

# 6 PLAY ‘’WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER’’
This game is so much fun, don’t you think? It is my favorite bar game by far, simply because it gets wild when you start getting tipsy, and you can play for hours on end. You can play it with a political twist, you can play the gross version (not for the easily disgusted), you could ask sport related questions, or you can play it with some romance.
Here are some ideas, what would you rather:
- Have hair all over your body, or to be bald?
- Be super strong or to be super fast?
- Have invisibility powers or to be able to fly?
- Stay in quarantine for 6 months with someone or for only 2 months alone?
You get the gist, right?

# 7 TRAVEL INSPIRED THEMED DINNER

Stuck in quarantine and can’t travel together as planned? Bring the world to you!
This is one of the great date night ideas at home to try (and the best thing is that it can be customized is so many different ways)!
Ideas to try for a travel inspired themed dinner:
- Mexico: It’s Margarita time!! Get the blender, the tequila and lemon juice and get ready for a spicy night ahead. You can also set up a make-your-own taco/nachos/burrito stand.
- Italy: Make homemade pasta or pizza together. This can be super easy with store bought dough or make it homemade. Here is an easy pizza dough recipe.
- France: Set aside your favorite selection of cheese and jams, pair it with a good bottle of wine. This must be one of my favorite date night ideas at home
- Japan: Sushi lovers, unite! This is your chance to learn to make sushi. Make the evening more fun by pairing a bottle of warm sake if desired
- Greece: Feast on a dinner of easy to make Mediterranean appetizers, such as Greek salad, olives, feta, artichoke dip, and hummus.
# 8 TURN YOUR BEDROOM INTO A FANCY HOTEL ROOM

Ahh staying at a fancy hotel always feels so glam. Who doesn’t enjoy sleeping in hotels beds, that are perfectly clean and comfortable.
Since with this current quarantine we cannot travel for the foreseeable future, this doesn’t mean we cannot enjoy a hotel experience.
Turn your home into a fancy hotel room for an ultra-luxurious and romantic stay at home date idea. I absolutely love this date night idea at home because it feels so posh.
Find below some ideas for a date night at home hotel:
- Light a few scented candles and create an ambiance smell
- Turn on soft ambiance music in your living room
- Set a fruit platter next to your bedside for breakfast and enjoy it together
- Hang these lux bathrobes at your bathroom to be ready for you
- At night, place a bottle of champagne in this acrylic ice bucket near the bed.
- If you really want to go all out, place chocolates on the pillows and sprinkle these beautiful silk flower petals on the bed
- Just for fun, leave yourself a handwritten thank you note. After all, you are a VIP guest at your hotel.
- Make creative cocktails and enjoy it at the ‘’bar’’ (ahem, living room) before going back to the ‘’hotel room’’
- Watch movies in bed and pretend you’re watching hotel pay-per-view
- Order in your favorite food and eat it in bed
- Make a simple breakfast in the morning and serve it in bed on this luxurious tray. This will take your date night into the next morning and will end with a cherry on top of the cake.
# 9 DIY SPA DATE NIGHT

I love going to the spa and I am one of those girl who is obsessed with skincare. Spas are great because they’re extremely refreshing, and you walk out as a whole new version of yourself. I like the feeling so much that I have been doing DIY home spas on before the quarantine even started. Having a DIY Spa at home is a romantic option for a quarantine date night.
An at home spa date can be very relaxing and romantic – without the high price tag.
Here is a post I wrote detailing everything you need to create the perfect DIY Home Spa Experience
# 10 MOVIE MARATHON

A movie marathon usually revolves around a theme, such as a particular decade, a director, actor or genre. Make some fresh popcorn, get out the yummy snacks, your favorite wine and cuddle up on the sofa.
Personally, I usually find it hard to stay awake during one movie, let alone two (Cris says I am a horrible movie buddy because I am snoring before they even have a chance to introduce Simba). However, you can always watch the second movie the following evening. If you need some ideas for your movie marathon, check out this list of family movie selection I did.
# 11 WRITE EACH OTHER LOVE NOTES

Add a little romance and daily giggles to your stay at home date night idea and leave each other love letters around the house. Cris and I do this all the time. It’s amazing to open random places, such as the kitchen drawer, and find a love note. A simple ‘I love you’ goes a long way.
# 12 BAKE A NEW DESSERT TOGETHER

Pick something scrumptious you both love and is fun to make. The best part of coking together is eating together later.
# 13 PLAY VIDEO GAMES

I can almost guarantee that your boyfriend or husband played video games growing up, even if he acts cool now. Maybe you did too?
Dig out your old Nintendo and play some Super Mario and travel back to your teenage days.
I have a Super Nintendo with vintage games. Cris’s dad and sister spent December with us for Christmas and we spent the whole month playing videogames. The fun is guaranteed in this quarantine date night. Video games have become vastly popular that they’re also being made into Video Game Board Games.
# 14 TAKE PERSONALITY TESTS

This is a great way to get to know each other on a deeper level. Personality test lets you know who you are and why you sometimes behave a certain way. Just think of how great it would be if you understood how and why your partner does things. That opens up for a whole new level of understanding between you guys!
I am not kidding, girls. When Cris and I met, we were having much more fights than we ever do nowadays.
This was mainly because I have always been an anxious person and Cris took my anxiety as a personal attack against him. Only after we did a personality test, that we understood each other (even though I always knew my anxiety affected my behavior, it was also a proof for him to understand my, sometimes, erratic behavior).
Take these tests to understand who you are and why you do things the way you do. This will do wonders do your relationship, especially if you have communication issues.

# 15 PLAY BOARD GAMES

You don’t always have to talk to each other at during the entire date night. Sometimes the conversation just doesn’t float. If that’s the case for you, then you should definitely play a board game! Board games are so much fun, and there’s a ton of them out there and they definitely make up a fun quarantine date night.
I LOVE board game nights! We will usually open a bottle of white wine, set out a cheese board with fresh crackers, and challenge each other to a bet (usually I will ask him to watch my favorite musical if I win – last time we watched Grease).
Check with your friends and family if you can borrow some games from them, instead of playing the ones that are in your closet (that you’ve already played a hundred times..).

# 16 CREATE A BUCKET LIST

Are there things that you want to do with your partner that you never got to accomplish? Write them down together! Your husband probably has some great ideas too. By writing down all of the things that you want to do together you’re more likely actually to do them.
When the quarantine is over, keep the list closely so that you remind yourself of all the amazing things you two can do together.
# 17 CAMP OUT IN THE LIVING ROOM

There’s something magical about snuggling up under a big pile of blankets. Put some nature ambiance sound, open the window for a fresh breeze and cuddle together telling horror stories.
# 18 HAVE A FONDUE PARTY

Have you tried fondue yet? It’s basically melted Swiss cheese with bread. Needless to say, it is HEAVENLY.
Ideally, you’ll need to invest in a fondue pot and this DELICIOUS Swiss cheese with a small flame underneath that keeps the mixture warm enough.
Not a fan of cheese? The good news is that you can also enjoy CHOCOLATE fondue in this different fondue pot made especially for chocolate (drool).
# 19 TASTE TEST

By now you probably noticed that food + quarantine are a great combo for me. That is why a food tasting is an ideal quarantine date night idea.
You can either pick up some quirky treats at the store, or have fun quizzing each other on ingredients that you already have at home. What matters is having a variety of food in both taste and texture.
Pick any theme: tequila, ice cream, cheese, chocolate, even candy, if that’s your thing. To make it extra amusing, create “tasting stations” with everything needed for the tasting party laid out and a sheet of paper to take “tasting notes”.
# 21 HAVE A DIY WINE + PAINTING EVENING

Getting creative, paired with wine is a great combo. Buy some cheap canvases and paints, look up a painting tutorial on YouTube, and paint at home together for your at home date night!
It doesn’t matter if you’re not good in art, or if your painting comes out looking nothing like the you thought it would (hint: it never does). Simply being creative can be extremely entertaining and relaxing.
# 22 VISIT A (VIRTUAL) MUSEUM

Did you know you can visit various museums online? In fact, many modern museums have an online collection that you can access for FREE. This is an ideal date for couples who like sharing something more intellectual. Find below some great museums you can explore online:
- The British Museum in London
- The Louvre in Paris
- The Dali Theater and Museum in Spain
- The Vatican Museums in Vatican City
PRO TIP
Why not spice up your virtual tour by playing games, such as a drinking game where every time you see boobs in a painting, take a sip of wine.
# 23 TAKE YOUTUBE DANCE LESSONS

If you’ve always wanted to take dance lessons as a couple, but always made excuses that you don’t have time or money, try YouTube. The platform is full of videos tutorials on how to do just about any kind of dancing (even Thriller from Michael Jackson, hint hint). Bring up a video on the big screen, put on your sparkling vest, and have fun learning some new routines.
