BRIGHT COLOR TREND ALERT!
Bright and vibrant colors are your new best friends in 2022
Colorful outfit pieces not only brighten your mood, but it’s one of the easiest ways to add some ZING to an otherwise plain outfit.
As a Brazilian, perhaps I am biased. But I am OBSESSED with this new trend. I love going inside stores and being bombarded by a wave of endless saturated colors.
If you wanna know more about this vibrant colors trend, buckle up. This is your guide on how to wear bright colors like a pro this year.
Put on your unicorn glasses and let’s dive into the rainbow.
Color is the New Black.
For years upon years we would hear that to be chic, you needed to wear neutral colors, such as nude, brown, and black.
In fact, black has been the epitome of fancy dressing, with Chanel’s infamous little black dress being a staple for seemingly endless years.
It’s safe, comfortable, and natural.
Since I started dating Cris (my Italian boyfriend), I kinda retired my colorful clothes, filled with flowers from Brazil. I started dressing more like an Italian woman, opting for less vibrant colors. It was my way of staying chic and maintaining a classic style since I live in Europe since 2012.
Yes. I’ve never felt so chic in my life. But as time went by, I was bored outta my mind!! I needed something more.
It was only when the bright colors trend started and I began once again buying vibrant pieces of clothes that I noticed how much I needed this.
Wearing a bright pink coat brightened my mood. Mixing otherwise contrasting colors (also called color-blocking) likewise became a fun activity to do.
Soon I saw myself mixing blue + green, red + purple, and my current personal favorite, purple + green (which my boyfriend says makes me look like the Joker. And I love it!).
I’ve never got so many compliments in my life. I’ve honestly had people stopping me in the street to compliment my colorful outfit choices.
And if you enter any store right now, you’ll be bombarded by all colors of the rainbow and more.

The Do’s and Don’ts on How to Wear Bright Colors
Adding a splurge of color to your everyday wardrobe is easier than you might think.
And here are a few tricks and Do’s and Don’ts to help your transition into a colorful mood:
Do – Ease Into Brighter Colors Slowly
If you’re unsure or concerned if you’ll look like a clown, start by adding some interesting vibrant accessories to your usual otherwise more plain outfit.
Vibrant Accessories Ideas:
- A handbag
- Interesting jewellery
I started with a bright green bag from Zara that cost something around $25 and built my way from there. Then I paired it with another green shirt (tone over tone).
The one day I was feeling particularly bold and used the green bag with a bright blue shirt. The results? Well, see for yourself below.
I knew I was on the right track to wear bright colors when I bumped into a friend who couldn’t stop complimenting my outfit and how I was standing out from the crowd.
Needless to say, that made my day.
Don’t – Mix too many different colors
Ok, so the goal here is to look good, and not ridiculous. Careful with how manycolors you mix, as it can easily get out of hand and seem like a unicorn threw up on you.
In the words of the master of bright colors, Emili Sindlev, ‘’it is important to be conscious about solid colors or patterns at the same time, as it is connected to the overall impression of the outfit—again, too many different patterns together will just look confusing’’.
Do – Elevated Basics
Say goodbye to your nude sweater vest or your long black winter coat. Statement hues will allow you to take part in new prints and colors without feeling like you are going too far!
A few examples of basics are a dress, a fun jumper, a bright sweater, or a colorful long trench are all great options.
So a good way to ease into how to wear bright colors is by starting out with statement pieces and add more colors as you feel more confident with your style.
Do – Monochrome it
If you’re bolder and feel adventurous, have you ever tried dressing in bright monochrome outfits? It’s soooo much fun!
I am a huge fan of monochromatic outfits. It makes everything look more chic. You can go on about it by choosing different shades of the same color (tone over tone).
“A fun way to wear color is by choosing different shades of the same color. For instance, you could opt for a purple sweater and add a lavender skirt and magenta heels,” Brooks said.
Don’t – Wear bright colors to work
Many people wonder if wearing bright colors for work is unprofessional or not.
And the answer to this is, well, it depends.
If the dress code in your office is business-formal, certain colors might attract more attention than what is typically deemed appropriate.
But bright-colored tops can of course be professional, the trick is getting the proportions right to make bright colors at the office work in your favor.
Can I wear vibrant colors in colder months, such as winter and fall?
In fact, a little bit of color therapy can have a MAJOR difference in your mood, especially during the dreary days of winter.
Bright colors make us feel good. “That’s because they’re evocative and elicit a visual connection for most of us,” celebrity stylist Alison Brooks said.
Influencer Nicole Ocran, a self-proclaimed “pink person” boasts an Instagram account filled with yellow, orange, green, and lilac. To her, black recalls an older idea of fashion based around rules. “In the era of fashion that I grew up in, it was definitely associated with things like, ‘this is the only way you can be chic’, and minimal wardrobes.”
She now stays away from black, saying: “It feels a little bit too safe. I’m in this kind of stage of my life where I want to be more playful.”
Adding a splurge of color to your everyday wardrobe is easier than you might think.
